Road Safety Southland in partnership with New Zealand Transport Agency,  NZ Police, A.C.C,  S.A.D.D., Public Health South, Drivesafe,  AA and Southland Sports Car Club  are organising a Young Drivers Conference in May this year.

We are thrilled to invite students from your school to attend this inaugural event.

The Need

Whilst most young drivers in Southland remain safe during the process of gaining a full license,  it is generally accepted that the relatively higher crash rate for NZ young drivers is partly an effect of lack of knowledge, insight, risk awareness and experience and partly an effect of age-related factors such as lifestyle, peer groups and maturity.

IMPORTANT INFO:

The venue caters for 100 students per day. Each school will be allocated places and a day upon acceptance of the invitation.

AIM:

To provide a participant-centred teaching and learning opportunity for young drivers seeking to positively influence attitude, motivation and behaviour.

PARTICIPATION:

VENUE: Teretonga Raceway-Transport to and from the school will be provided.

CONTENT:

Students attend for 1 full day and will rotate around 4 x 60minute workshops: Lunch provided.

• Safer Vehicles
• Safer Speeds

Road safety education for Young Drivers has the best fit with the curriculum area of health and physical education.

In health and physical education, the focus is on the well-being of the students themselves, of other people, and of society through learning in health-related and movement contexts.

Tuesday the 8^th of May to Friday the 11^th of May 2012

COST:

There will be no cost to the school or student. However a commitment for supported ongoing road safety initiatives is encouraged.
