Welcome to Term Four

I hope everyone had the opportunity to enjoy the magnificent weather we experienced during the school holidays; it was certainly nice to be in a blue sky weather bubble compared to the rest of the country!

The senior students, of course, will have been enjoying the sun while they were studying in preparation for both their practice exams this past week and NCEA exams which begin in four weeks. As parents, please look out for notification of practice exam results that will be out within the next ten days. These results will be quickly followed by the Options Evening on Tuesday, 25th October. This is a very good opportunity for parents to hear more about how NCEA works and to discuss 2017 subject possibilities for your children. The option choices will be made through the Musac Edge portal this year and more instructions will be given about this in due course.

We welcomed Miss Carla Wilson to our staffroom on Monday. Carla is our Guidance Counsellor while Mrs Megan Lamb is on maternity leave. Carla will be in school Monday, Wednesday and Friday and she looks forward to meeting as many students and parents as possible. Please make yourself known to her if you are in school at any stage.

After a number of years commuting from home in Invercargill, Mr Chris McIlwrick has gained a position at Southland Boys’ High School from the beginning of next year. We will formally farewell Chris later in the year. The Board has appointed Miss Janelle Casey as the HELA Health and Phys Ed. Miss Casey comes to us after eight years as HOD PE and Dean at St Kevin’s College. We look forward to the contribution she will make to our College.

The Church celebrates Mission Sunday this weekend. Pope Francis has asked that we all consider our mission.

“On this World Mission Sunday, all of us are invited to "go out" as missionary disciples, each generously offering their talents, creativity, wisdom and experience in order to bring the message of God’s tenderness and compassion to the entire human family.”

This is a message we also regularly promote with the students. “How are you using your God-given gifts and talents to share with others and model the life God wants to see?” – some thoughts for us all to ponder.

Nga mihi
