Amongst the busyness of this term, it has been wonderful to celebrate student achievement this week.

It was my pleasure to attend the Youthmark Awards at the Ascot Park Hotel last night and I would like to congratulate Keegan Irwin and April Perkins on being the recipients of these awards for 2017. You can read about their considerable achievements over the page. Well done to both of you, and we look forward to hearing of your achievements in the future.

We also held our Sports and Cultural Blues Assembly on Wednesday, welcoming back ex-student Tori Peeters as guest speaker. Tori left school in 2012 and, as a world class javelin thrower, is hoping to be selected for the 2018 Commonwealth Games. We appreciated Tori speaking to us about the importance of failure and the growth that can develop from that. Resilience is a much needed skill in young people, and I hope that her message resonated with many of the listeners. Congratulations to all our  Blues recipients who have shown great commitment and resilience as they have worked towards succeeding at such a high level.

On Wednesday morning, our school assembly was treated to a visit by the 3D Tonga Outreach group that have been staying in Riversdale during the last couple of weeks. As I said to the students, we omitted our prayer to start assembly, knowing that this group was going to share the Gospel with us in a much more engaging way!  It was a pleasure to have these visitors in the school and we wish them well in their future missionary outreach work.

Please keep an eye on emails, the Facebook page and upcoming newsletters. The calendar is full and there are plenty of events to keep an eye on!

Have an enjoyable weekend,

Nga mihi
