Future Focus

One of the key areas in our strategic plan is the theme “Future Focus”. For the rest of the year, our Year 7 students are using their tablets in the classroom as a learning tool. The use of blended  e-learning, where technology is used as a learning tool, is an important goal within our strategic plan. Part of this learning will also involve understanding what makes for respectful and appropriate communication using technology. All staff also took part in digital technology professional learning on Monday with a visiting expert. It is important that we, as educators, model life-long learning to our students.

Another area of future focus within the strategic plan is that of transition of our senior students into meaningful study or employment. To this effect, we again encourage families to take the opportunity to visit the St Peter’s College and Gore High School Combined Careers Evening this Thursday evening. Students are never too young to begin thinking about life after school and get a sense of the learning that must occur to get there. My thanks go to Mrs Anne Perniskie, ably assisted by Mrs Robyn Young, who are passionate about successful transition for senior students.

This week I attended the National Catholic Secondary Schools’ Principals Conference. The keynote speaker from America spoke to us about stewardship of the Earth. This should be a future focus for all educators who have the responsibility of influencing the next generation. “God so loved the world that He gave his one and only Son” (John 3:16) means that God also loved all of his creation. The strong message presented was the need to take stewardship of God’s creation and ensure that we leave it as God would want for the generations to come.

Pope Francis has asked each one of us “What kind of world do we want to leave to those who come after us?”

Congratulations to all who were involved in the Hokonui Fashion Awards last weekend. We had a number of our students modelling in this, and our own Mrs Viv Tamblyn should be very proud of her achievements over the weekend. Well done, Viv!
