During Queen’s Birthday weekend, Liam and I went to Timaru to play for Eastern Southland in the Ian Smith Senior Men's Hockey Tournament. The Tournament consists of six teams: South Canterbury, Mid Canterbury, North Otago, Central Otago, Invercargill and Eastern Southland. Over three days we played five games. We won against Central Otago (4-2), Mid Canterbury (7-0), North Otago (5-3), drew against South Canterbury (2-2) and lost to Invercargill (1-0). On the Monday morning after beating North Otago we had already claimed second place but to win the Tournament we had to put our faith in Mid Canterbury as they had to either beat South Canterbury or draw with them. Mid Canterbury ended up with a 3-3 draw. Thanks to them, we were able to take first place and win the Ian Smith trophy for Eastern Southland's fourth time in the last sixty years.
