What a wonderful start to our Matariki celebrations! On Tuesday morning Jerome Kavanagh, Grammy Award winning soloist and Maori musical instrument specialist, came to visit our school! He ran two exciting workshops for Year Seven and Eight students throughout the morning. The Year Eights were privileged to hear Jerome play a collection of Taonga Puoro (traditional Maori instruments) and then he showed them how to create their own instrument from clay. Students should have brought home their Ukutangi and will hopefully be able to get some beautiful sounds from them. Jerome taught the Year Sevens all about the history of Ki o Rahi with his storytelling skills and then took them out into the cold to play! It was an exciting morning and a great learning experience!
