Greetings to All

Welcome back to Term Three. We have a very strong school community and this was again evident at the Foundation Board meeting earlier this week. Planning is underway for the 50th Anniversary of St Peter’s College and the momentum is beginning to build as we approach 2019. Mrs Anne Hunt has been gathering and documenting the history of the college and uploading much of this to the Foundation page on the school website. There are interview videos of ex staff members and students and photos that many of you should find very interesting.  Please also use the Facebook https://www.facebook.com/pages/St-Peters-College-Foundation-Gore-NZ keep up to date with archived information for you to view.

At assembly on Wednesday, I spoke to the students about the importance of community; this is the core value we are focussing on for 2015. The example I gave was of the Highlanders rugby team and the Southland Sharks basketball team winning their respective championships during the holidays. What was evident on the post-match interviews for both of these teams was that the game changer for them was the culture within the team. Both captains spoke about a sense of community, family, support, attitude and the fact that they were not a team of champions but had still become a championship team. My message to the students was that it is passion, motivation, loyalty, support, respect and encouragement for one another that will make us a champion school. We do not need to be a school of champions but by practising and actioning this culture we can become a team that always strives for the very best outcome for everyone in it. This culture needs to extend beyond the students and as valued members of our school community, please consider how you contribute to this supportive culture in your own way.

This is an important term for our seniors as they complete curriculum programmes and consolidate their learning for the approaching NCEA examinations. We value the support that, as parents, you offer your children as they set their goals and work towards them. Our Year 12 Careers Pathways class had a very successful day on Tuesday. Photos here show some of the activities they organised for the Year 7 students as part of their assessment.  Well done to the Year 12s - everyone was having a great time when I visited the stadium to see learning in action.

The prayer from assembly on Wednesday:

Text Box: Loving and supportive God,
Support us this term, as we support each other to be the best we can be.
Help us to understand that believing in one another and encouraging each other makes us all stronger.
Be with our St Peter’s community as we make the most of every day you have given us.
We ask this in the name of Christ our Lord,
Amen
