The Southern Catholic Secondary Schools Sports’ Tournament was held last Sunday and Monday in Gore. Senior students from St Peter’s College, Verdon College, Kavanagh College, St Kevin’s College and Roncalli College competed in a range of sports. It was a wonderful two days of good competition and fun. Unfortunately we were unable to complete the intended Mass of Thanksgiving at the Gore Catholic Church on Sunday evening due to the fire in East Gore. A big thank you to Father Damian and Mr Terry for their hard work in coordinating and organising the mass.
Students and staff enjoyed the opportunity to be part of something that highlighted our common heritage and the realisation we are part of something unique; Catholic schools separated by geography but bound by a shared faith and core set of values. It is something students from St Peter’s College, being the smallest of the Colleges will remember.
Southland Kidz Kartz Harness Racing finished for the season last weekend. Rebecca Heads (Year 9) started her pony "Night Allowance" 23 times during the season, gaining 15 wins, four seconds, one third and three fourths, which is a fantastic effort. She also won the following:
* Northern Southland Trotting Club Cup at Balfour in December
* Wyndham Kindergarten Kidz Kartz Series at Wyndham raced for during November and February
* Riverton Trotting Club Cup at Invercargill in March
Night Allowance has also been nominated for the Southland Kidz Kartz Pony of the Year award.
As a driver, Rebecca had 25 drives, winning 15 and gaining 4 seconds, one third and five fourths.
She has had a great season with the hard work and dedication really paying off. Well done Rebecca!
