Monday, 29th July saw 10 dancers from St Peter’s College, travelling to Invercargill to take part in the DanceNZmade interschool workshops, performances and competition.
Leaving at 7.45am and returning at 9.45pm meant a very big day for the students who alternated between workshops in hiphop, jazz and musical theatre as well as performance rehearsals during the day and the Competition in the evening.
The DanceNZmade Interschool Dance Competition has been running for 10 years and it was exciting to see it being held in Invercargill for the first time. 10 Schools participated in the event and St Peter’s College and Central Southland College were the only 2 schools from outside of Invercargill to compete.
All 10 dancers enjoyed the variety of workshops and their performances at the end of the Concert gave a snapshot of all that they had learnt. Two of the International Students, Dada Chantaraviroj and Ophelia Nam didn’t compete but really enjoyed the dance workshops as their first taste of dance in New Zealand.
The Competition part of the event was held in the evening and St Peter’s College came away with some awesome results.
Year 13 Solo: 1st Lucy Swain, 2nd Maggie Nicholson
Year 7/8 Duo/Trio: 1st Mikaela McRae & Annie Moody
Year 11-13 Duo/Trio: 1st Lucy Swain, Trelise Wadsworth & Olivia Reihana (who had dispensation to join us from Gore High School)
