Veronica Boyle was a pupil of St Mary’s from 1989 to 1995 and St Peter’s from 1996 to 2002. She went on to complete medical qualifications at Auckland Medical School after which she took 3 years out of medical work to complete her study through the Liggins Institute. The title of her thesis was "Vitamin D Supplementation to Prevent the Development of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus". We congratulate Veronica on her PhD recently awarded by Auckland University. Title of Thesis: Vitamin D Supplementation to Prevent the Development of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus Citation: Four percent of New Zealand women develop diabetes in pregnancy. This has a lasting effect on their health and the health of their children. Women who develop diabetes in pregnancy are more likely to be vitamin D deficient than women who do not. Dr Boyle investigated whether vitamin D supplementation in pregnancy can prevent the development of diabetes.
