This week the Year 12 PE class went to Riverton for a surf camp. We left early on Sunday morning and arrived in Riverton at midday. We stayed in two cribs along Taramea Bay, with views out to the sea. After finding out that our first surfing session was cancelled due to a huge thunderstorm and massive wind gales, the students all went for a swim in the sea, with half of us baring the cold and wearing only togs. This was all very gnarly. Later on in the evening we went to Invercargill to watch the movie ‘Black Panther’. After that we headed back to Riverton, had fish and chips for tea and all settled in for the night. The following morning we headed out to Monkey Island, which is a beach near Riverton, where we started our first surfing session. Our surfing instructors taught us the basics of surfing and we quickly got into it. After an hour and a half of surfing and some of us managing to actually surf, we went back to Riverton in the vans and had lunch. Later on at 2:30pm we went surfing again for another hour and a half and then went back to the cribs. In the evening, everyone went down to the field opposite our cribs and played touch for a couple hours until tea time. For tea on Monday night Mr Kotkamp and Miss Hickey made us a few curries that were really yum and everyone went to the boys crib to watch ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ on TV. Tuesday morning we headed out to Colac Bay at 9am and we had our last session surfing. By now all of us had managed to get up surfing and were slowly tiring out. From here we went back to Riverton, tidied up, had lunch and got on the road back home. Big thanks to Mr Kotkamp and Miss Hickey who organised and went with us on the camp and also the amazing Surf Instructors.
