Winter Tournament week was a very busy week for many of our students. We had seventy students involved during the week, playing all manner of winter sports, and travelling as far as Nelson to do so.
Our Senior A Netball team travelled to Nelson, along with two of our netball umpires. Nelson put on some beautiful weather for the first two days of the tournament, while the last two days can best be described as WET. The team finished 26th at the SISS Netball Tournament. They gave it their all, even going into extra time during one of their games on Thursday.
We had two Hockey teams competing during the week. Our Boy’s Hockey team competed in Ashburton, finishing 2nd in their pool behind eventual tournament winners Lincoln High School. Overall the boys finished 5th, winning three of their four games. Good work boys.
Our hockey girls competed in Cromwell and finished 3rd overall. I had the pleasure of watching the girls play their semi-final game. While they didn’t win this game, if possession was anything to go by, they certainly had this game in their grasp. Congratulations to the girl’s team for being ranked the highest goal scoring team.
Along with the St Peter’s team competing in Cromwell, we also had two students playing for a Gore High combined team. This team placed 12th overall, giving our girls some valuable tournament experience.
We had students playing in two Football teams. Our boys played in a combined St Peter’s College, Central Southland College, Northern Southland College team, which competed in Dunedin and placed 11th overall, after three wins and three losses. Congratulations to Taylor Peterson who was named team MVP.
Our female footballers teamed up with Gore High School and played in the Lotto Sportswear Tournament in Invercargill. The girls finished 12th overall.
With U15 Rugby the theme was collaborating with other schools. We had four boys playing for Gore High School in the Rural Livestock Ltd U15 Rugby tournament that was held in Christchurch. This team placed placed 6th in Divison 1. We also had one student playing for Menzies College at this tournament, and they placed 6th in Division 2.
To finish off the week we had two students that travelled to Mosgiel on Friday to compete in a women’s U15 Rugby tournament. The Eastern Combined team that they played for had students from Gore High School, St Peter’s College, James Hargest, Longford, Riversdale, Menzies and Blue Mountain College. While the team didn’t place in the tournament, they had some very close games, and competed well despite the VERY wet and slippery conditions.
None of these teams would have been able to compete without the backing of the many coaches and managers who volunteered their time to accompany the students. A huge thank you to ALL our coaches and managers and thank you to all the schools that worked together to get our students doing what they love………playing sport.
