LOCATION AND FACILITIES

The College is located in Gore, within two hours of three major airports, the university city of Dunedin, the tourist resort of Queenstown, several ski-fields and many other recreational activities - and just one hour from the Southland Institute of Technology.

A feature of the school is its hostel, which is linked to the school buildings. The hostel has only 75 students and they are cared for by trained staff and a professional hostel manager. The school has a trained staff and fully equipped computer, music, technology rooms, as well as science laboratories, gymnasium and library.

ACCOMMODATION

Our international students normally begin their New Zealand education living with a family to improve their English.  They may then choose to live in our hostel where there is a high level of supervision and support or remain in homestay.  Homestays are arranged for hostel students for weekends and holidays.

SPECIAL RELATIONS WITH OVERSEAS SCHOOLS AND STUDENTS

At present we have students, including exchange students, from Japan, Germany and Holland.  We have a sister-school relationship with a Japanese High School - Hikarigaoka High School in Okazaki and we exchange students with them.

OUR SUPPORT TEAM

The College has a guidance network involving a counsellor, deans, a language teacher, and careers adviser. For international students we also have a Dean of International Students - Mrs Ruth Low, who looks after their welfare and provides support with school work when that is needed.  Mrs Marion van Acker is our Homestay Coordinator.  All students who require it, will receive English language tuition from a specialist ESOL teacher at no extra cost.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

It is desirable that new students can speak some English.  Students with very low levels of English may be asked to attend a Language School before beginning at St Peter's.

Students must be of good character, and willing to work hard with their school work. We must see an academic transcript and we may ask for a letter from the student's present school Principal.  All students will receive English language tuition from our specialist ESOL teacher, as well as very good pastoral care and a tutor for their academic subjects.
