Opening Mass

Posted Wednesday February 28, 2024

Together with our parish, families and school community we celebrated our school’s opening mass for 2024 at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament on Wednesday, February 27th. The theme of the mass was our school value of hapouri (community), the Year Thirteens of 2024 showed this value through introducing the new Year Seven students to our whole community by leading them into the church alongside them, which was a memorable moment of Tuakana-Teina as many relationships have begun to form.

The mass was celebrated by our new parish priest, Father Sani Lam, along with Father Aiden Cunningham of the Rosminian order. Father Sani discussed the topic of commitment during his homily and asked the students about the different values associated with this principle as he emphasised the importance of our commitment to God as students at a Catholic college. Throughout the mass, we were witness to the impressive skills of Mr Terry’s newly formed 2024 mass band and during communion, we all had the privilege of hearing the choir sing ‘how could you not believe’.

After the mass was celebrated, the 2024 Eucharistic ministers and the Year 13 class were presented with badges blessed by both Father Sani and Father Aiden. The student executive was also formally announced to the school community, with the compassion, community, and commitment leaders also presented with their blessed badges.

Following the Mass, the staff, Year thirteen students, and their family members shared a deliciously prepared lunch in the Senior Citizens Room.

This opening mass was a bright start to the school year, as we welcomed the new members of our school community by celebrating together.
