Career Pathways

Posted Wednesday September 6, 2023

This week the Rural Health Careers programme rolled into school and Years 10/12 and 13 took part in a morning of activities with various health professionals. Students had a go at taking blood pressure, dressing wounds, pill sorting and identifying images around speech and language, all under the guidance of a trainee doctor, nurse, paramedic, pharmacist and a speech and language therapist. They also spoke about the individual pathways they were on to qualify in their profession. They highlighted the subjects needed to be taken in school for each pathway and the importance of having rural students coming back to the rural communities that they know.

Next week, in conjunction with Gore High School, St Peter’s College is hosting Studylink for parents and students. This is a great chance to find out about applying for student loans and allowances and is especially relevant for Years 12 and 13. It is on Tuesday, 12th September, 5pm, in the School Chapel on Kakapo Street.

It is scholarship time! If you are planning on going onto tertiary study next year whether that be at University , Polytechnic or Trade , please keep an eye on your email. MLT and Pakeke Lions scholarship application's have been posted out to student and parents’ email. Hard copies are also available at the Careers Office.
