Rugby Round Up

We feel privileged to be part of such a supportive and generous community – THANK YOU! The SPC Rugby Committee would like to acknowledge all of you who have assisted in this fundraising venture. Firstly, to our players & whānau – the raffles and supper plates were both amazing and delicious. Thanks for being taxi to your players and bringing a quiz team along. Thanks to our students who cleared, cleaned, helped with kai preparation and delivery, sold raffles and assisted us on the night. Thanks to our First XV muscles in the set up & packing up of the tables & chairs.

Thanks to those of you who were in a quiz team trying to solve our questions.

Thanks to our kitchen organisers – Tania, Tina, Trudy & Donna.

Shout out to our bar staff – Justine, Melissa, Ella, Grace & team.

Our superb quiz markers – what a task! Thanks to Mrs Hunter, Mrs Jackson, Miss Cahill, Charlotte McDermott & Mrs Quinney.

It was awesome to see long standing SPC supporters Mr & Mrs McKenzie return, who, alongside Mrs Perkins, did an excellent job of our raffles.

We couldn’t have run such a successful evening without the beady eyes of our spotters – Baz, Mark, Richard, Jamie & Al. Thanks, lads, for ensuring our energetic auctioneer Tegal Morrison saw those bids coming in.

A huge thank you to our quiz master Jo Brand, who effectively ran our evening with her quick wit and charisma. Thanks also to David Rance & his team at the T & C.

To our dedicated and hard working SPC Rugby Committee - what a team! You have all made this event possible. Thanks for your organisational capabilities.

Thanks to our auction purchasers – from a Mystery car cruise, a weed wacker, to the Papatowai crib. Thank you for choosing to support our rugby club. You can be assured that the money we have raised will continue to strengthen rugby from our grassroots level.

Thanks lastly to our sponsors. We value your contribution and dedication to supporting our players and our club. Your generosity is simply amazing! We are deeply appreciative of your donations and were blown away at your benevolence.

We are encouraging you to please continue to support our amazing list of sponsors.

This week saw our Under 16 Eastern combined team take to the field in their first fixture of the season. This team shows real promise for the season ahead. Notable aspects that I saw from the sideline included strong runs by Ana & Millie alongside the accurate boot of Nia. Charlotte & Addi demonstrated their experience and led the charge from the front. Pocket rocket’s Hannah & Bailey defended like troopers, while Elliot and Shelby were continuously watching the ball runners and defended our line with grit & determination.

The winning streak continued for our Y9/10 development team, who ventured down to Tuatapere on Monday. This side, despite a slow start, came together to convincingly get the win. Courtney & Mackai played with purpose, while Matilda, Olivia, Ava & Eva wreaked havoc (in a good way). Brooke’s tenacious play resulted in a hat-trick while Jess, Jaeda and Amelia were tackling machines. We can’t wait to see what Meilah can do when she laces up next week.
