Kia ora e te whānau

Give, and it will be given to you.

One of the incredible aspects of St Peter’s College is our fabulous community. These past few weeks have seen many opportunities for students to participate in education outside the classroom including the Year 12 PE surf camps, the Agribusiness trip to Waitane, the International students visits to Te Anau and Dunedin, the Southland Athletics Competitions and the senior School Ball. There is no way our College could provide all the various and wonderful things to our students without the support of our community.

This Sunday and Monday we are hosting the Secondary Catholic School’s Quad Tournament and we are excited to have St Kevin’s from Oamaru, Trinity Catholic College from Dunedin and Verdon College from Invercargill come and play us in Hockey, Basketball, Netball, Football and Rugby. Please see our draws for each sport in this newsletter and come along and support if you can. I would like to thank our Sports Coordinator, Mrs Rebecca Chittock, who has put in a tremendous amount of work to organise this weekend.

New Zealand was built on community spirit. From a parish funding a church, to an isolated community coming together to build a hall or a swimming pool for the local school, many things that we take for granted were provided for by the generations before us. Changes in society mean that many of these things don’t happen anymore. But they do here at SPC! This is something that we can be grateful for. Thank you to all our community, past and present, for all you do, for not only the current students but the future students of St Peter’s College.

Recently we had our Academic Blues Awards Assembly, and it was lovely to recognise the hard work and commitment that many of our young people put in last year to achieve their very best.

We also gratefully thank Ms Mallory Hood, past pupil of St Peter’s College, who came back and gave a heartfelt and motivating speech to our students by sharing her educational journey since leaving school. We are so very lucky to have her working alongside us at St Mary’s primary school.

Draw us forth, God of all creation. Draw us forward and away from limited certainty into the immense world of your love. Give us the capacity to even for a moment taste the richness of the feast you give us. Give us the peace to live with uncertainty, with questions, with doubts.

Help us to experience the resurrection anew with open wonder and an increasing ability to see you in the people of Easter.
