Surf Camp

Posted Wednesday March 13, 2024

As part of the Year 12 PE programme, students partake in a surf camp in Riverton and Colac Bay, and are assessed on two NCEA Level 2 standards. Students study risk management prior to attending the trip and create their own SAP (safety action plan) on how to best minimise the risks involved with the activity of surfing, looking at factors such as environment, people and equipment which they evaluate after completing the trip. They are also assessed on their skill level/ability of surfing.

The Year 12B class trip was one to remember!! During both surf sessions we were joined by pods of Hector dolphins who swam alongside us and surfed the waves in front of us. Truly magnificent. Even though the weather meant our third surf session had to be cancelled, the students did not let the cold conditions impact their surf time. All students stood up and rode waves into the beach. Everyone gave it their best, lots of laughs had, and proud teachers and parents. A super group of rangatahi to take away who truly demonstrated the St Peter's values and made the most of their learning opportunities. Well done, Year 12B PE!!

And bring on Year 12A's Surf Camp March 25th and 26th! (Postponed due to bad weather, from March 4th and 5th).
