School Board Update August 2023

Posted Thursday August 17, 2023

The first Board meeting for term three was held on August 10th.

The Board was well represented at the Bishop’s Shield competition, hosted by St Peter’s College last weekend. The Board congratulates all the staff involved in the weekend. The Board acknowledges the amazing effort of those involved in organising this event as well as the time that was spent preparing our students for their various events. We are so proud of the team of students who delivered such polished performances winning the Bishop’s Shield for 2023.

The Board adopted the Code of Conduct for Catholic Integrated School Board Members, and a copy is attached below as a pdf. The Board also adopted new policies on Camera Surveillance and Reducing Physical Restraint. The Concerns and Complaints Procedure is also attached, which provides a guide to raising a concern and the best person to approach in the first instance.

During the meeting, the Board discussed the various training opportunities members had participated in over the last few weeks. The upcoming NCEA changes as well as the curriculum refresh workshop was attended by a number of Board members; a great opportunity to learn more on how this will be rolled out. A seminar on well-being and self-care was also attended; this topic always at the forefront of Board decisions, so again, a great learning opportunity.

A planning and reporting webinar has given us some helpful insight as we work towards the new look Strategic Planning process. The Board will be establishing new strategic goals effective from 1 January, 2024. We discussed an upcoming parent consultation evening, the date to be confirmed for October. The information gathered from the evening will shape the goals and ensure the Strategic Plan reflects our parent community priorities.

The Board will be surveying students on the school uniform over the next few weeks. The aim of the survey is to gain student perspective on the uniform as it is today and what it may look like in the future. Meeting time was also spent discussing the next steps in building a porch area on the prefab classrooms. As a Board, we are doing what we can to make this project come to fruition.

Over the next few weeks many of our students will have the opportunity to experience class camps and a number of sports trips. These educational experiences are heading as far afield as Mt Cook, Queenstown, as well as to the Cardrona ski field. The Board acknowledged the preparation involved in all Education outside the Classroom experiences and extended thanks to all our staff for their work.

Confirmed Minutes of the 28 June 2023 Board meeting are also attached below – or available by request from the Board Secretary, juliehenry@stpetersgore.school.nz
