Very early on Thursday morning, the St Peter’s boys were treated not only to a full cooked breakfast in the Hostel dining room, but the fact that it was served to them by Jimmy Cowan, Josh Clark and Morgan Mitchell of the Southland Stags Rugby Team.  Well, that was something special!

After the breakfast the boys retired with the Stags to the Games Room where they had a chance to hear from Jimmy Cowan and the others about what life was like as a professional rugby player, Highlander and All Black, and particularly, the impact of issues like racism and bullying in the game and how they stand together against it, as well as the culture of respect that exists in the Stags. The boys listened intently to every word that was said and it was such a privilege to hear the players talk about major issues like this.

After the talk, the Stags and boys at the breakfast went out and joined the rest of the junior school for some fun games and activities during period 1, with a new initiative the Stags are promoting, called ‘Stag Tag’. Look out for this competition this summer, as it appears a great game which includes all abilities, fitness levels and mixed teams.

Thanks so much to the Stags and Southland Rugby who came out on their day off, to support our school in such a positive and enjoyable way. We look forward to more of these opportunities in the future.
