I have recently been on Spirit of Adventure.  It is an awesome experience where we spent ten days with 40 trainees and 10 crew members. The trip included leadership, communication skills and learning how to sail the $35 million ship which was a lot of fun!

We sailed all around Hauraki Gulf at the top of the North Island. We went to the Coromandel, Great Barrier and Little Barrier Islands. The weather was extremely good.

Our days consisted of getting up at 6:30am and jumping straight into the sea. We would then have a hot breakfast, do some chores and then we are away sailing. After a day of learning the ropes, and climbing the mast we would always go for a swim. We did a lot of swimming and there was a rope swing that was great fun.

Doing teambuilding games I really got to know all of the 40 other trainees. After 10 days I did not want to leave; the new friends I made were from all over New Zealand, mostly from the north which meant they took the mickey out of me for rolling my R’s.

This trip is a great opportunity and I recommend it to anyone, especially if you want a break from school!!

If you would like to go on The Spirit of Adventure talk to Mr Kotkamp.
