This week was National Social Justice Week, a week where we raise awareness about the social justice issues in New Zealand. We have been building up to this with special assembly’s every Wednesday showcasing to the students the poverty that is in New Zealand. This year’s theme was “Family Poverty”, so we focused on how some children have to go to school without having breakfast or any food to take to school for lunch. So on Wednesday 16th, as a school, we did ‘Can for a Cause’ where every student bought in a can of food to donate to St Vincent de Paul. There, these cans will be given to local struggling families in the community. This was a successful day and students can be proud of their small act which will have a huge impact. We are also going to have a Mufti Day on Thursday, 24th September, where every student will be required to bring a gold coin donation which will go to the local group ‘Happy2Help’. Thank you to all the students and parents who donated.
