Kia ora e te whānau
We have come to the end of the school year of 2025 in what has felt like great speed. Like any year in the life of a school, there have been some great highlights and also some things to look back on and learn from. I would like to thank all the staff, students and whānau who have contributed in their own way to making 2025 overall a successful year for the College.
To all the students who will receive awards at the school prize giving, I give my heartfelt congratulations. These awards indicate the dedication, energy, natural talent, and time that you have put into your studies or extracurricular activities. Well done! To those students who have applied themselves this year but did not receive an award, I also would like to congratulate you. As a faith-based school, we believe that all people have intrinsic dignity and are valued by our God whether they win awards or not.
For all the students who 2025 marks the end of their time at St Peter’s College, I hope and pray that you will leave the school with positive memories, friendships that will last a lifetime and most importantly, having grown as a person during your time with us. To the Year 13 leavers of 2025, I especially want to say thank you for being yourselves and for being a part of this community. We wish you all the best with your future endeavours and will always be proud of the young men and women you have grown into. Be yourself, aim for the stars, enjoy the journey of life, and do great things.
I would also like to take this opportunity to wish those staff who will not be returning in 2026 all the best for the future. In various ways, you have supported our students to develop their talents and to grow into the young people they are. Thank you for your dedication and passion.
The School Board has recently adopted a new Strategic Plan for the College for 2026. I would encourage you to have a look at this on the school website under the Governance tab. The focus is very much building on our current strengths, adding additional value and further embedding the schools' values of Commitment, Community and Compassion.
On Friday 5th of December, we had the unveiling of the Prue Scorgie Staff Long Service Board in the staffroom. This was marked with morning tea, and several of the former staff who were at the College for 20 or more years joined us to celebrate this. The purpose of the board is to recognise the long service of staff to this community. Several of our current staff were among the names on the board.
Finally, as we draw closer to the Feast of the Birth of Jesus Christ, my prayer is that we all take the time to reflect on the great gift we have received from the coming of God in human flesh. The impact that the person of Jesus of Nazareth has had on our world can never be overstated, the example that He set in the way that He lived, but above all of this, the fact that we have a God who came and dwelt amongst us so we could be saved. Christmas should be a time filled with joy and gratitude for the many gifts that we have received. Wishing you all a Meri Kirihimete, Merry Christmas.
