Kia ora e te whānau

As term three comes to an end, I would like to thank all those who have contributed in various ways this term to provide our students with the various experiences they have had. Schools are communities that require the support of volunteers to be able to offer our students additional and varied opportunities.

Recently we had the First XV v Senior A Netball game, which was a great demonstration of school spirit. It was great to see these two face off against each other in a friendly, yet competitive rivalry. Well done to the Senior A Netball for the victory.

The term has ended with a Cultural Day to celebrate the many different culture and traditions within our school community. Well done to all those staff and students who wore various cultural dress for the day, as well as those who cooked various food that was shared with the school. A special thanks to Mikee Omega and Shalvi Permal, who did a lot of the organising for this event.

This year was the fiftieth anniversary of Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori, which was an opportunity to reflect on the progress that has been made in the use of Te Reo throughout our society. While we still have a long way to go, the progress made over the last fifty years should be celebrated, and to be thankful for the pioneers who sacrificed to save the language.

Our new Board of Trustees is now in place, and I would like to congratulate all those who were elected. I would also like to thank those who stood for election. We were fortunate to have a strong pool of highly capable candidates. I look forward to working with this group moving forward.

During the school holidays, work will begin on the last of the classrooms in the Science area that have not been renovated. This work will include one Science lab, the Commerce classroom, a couple of office areas, and corridor space.  If everything runs to plan, these will be up and operational for the start of 2026. The Diocese has also indicated that there will be some further investment in improvements over the next couple of years.

I wish to share some exciting news for 2026 with our community. Over the course of this year, we have been working hard to develop a new and exciting opportunity for our students in the area of construction. In 2026 we will be running a construction programme where senior students will be able to build a transportable two-bedroom home that will be sold at the end of the process. Students will also do a range of Unit Standards alongside the practical learning. The process to get this approved and signed off has been extensive, and we still have more work to do on this. Our Year 12 and 13 students will greatly benefit from this opportunity.

Finally, I would like to thank you for continuing to support the College and choosing St Peter’s for your children's education.
