Tēnā koutou katoa,
Welcome back to Term Two. I hope all students and whānau had an enjoyable and relaxing holiday break. Term Two typically sees a step up in intensity for academic, cultural and sporting activities and events, and this year promises to be no different.
Last Friday we commemorated Anzac Day with a liturgy lead by our Year 13s. I would like to thank Bradley Bridgman, Wayne McClelland, and Michael O’Neil from the Gore RSA for joining us to remember all those who have given so much to our country, and to reflect with gratitude on their service. We were especially grateful to hear from Mr. Bridgman about his experience serving in our military, and how this shaped him and helped him find a sense of purpose in his life. Thank you also to Andrei Morus and Eilish Greene for representing our kura at the Gore Dawn Service and Parade on Anzac Day. It was great to see a good number of other St Peter’s students in attendance there also.
We are fortunate to have two new staff members joining us this term. Mrs. Linda Dalzell has returned to our college for a third stint. She will be with us one day per week for this term and will be working alongside our teachers to support the development of relational and restorative practices across our school. We also welcome Miss Ella Cupit, who joins our team of teacher aides. We look forward to working alongside both of you.
Next Wednesday we have our Whānau Conferencing evening from 2:30pm until 7pm. Please do book a time if you haven’t already done so. These face-to-face conversations are invaluable for ensuring that students, whānau, and teachers are all on the same page with knowing where a student sits with their learning, and what needs to be done to support further progress. You will have received an email from Mrs. Ryan with further details around booking appointments, but please contact the office if you encounter any issues.
I would like to thank and congratulate all those students who have signed up and committed to participating in a winter sport. The personal growth and positive relationships that so often grow from being involved in a team is an important aspect of developing and maturing. It was especially impressive to see 30 students sign up for our Year 7 & 8 Rugby team!
Thank you for all your support of St Peter’s College.
