I was fortunate enough to join our Year 12 PE class on their surf camp in Dunedin. During the camp several members of the public took the time to come and introduce themselves and comment on how great our students were. They were all great ambassadors for the College demonstrating our school values of compassion, commitment and community. This was a good reminder that wherever we go as a school we represent the College, and the impression we make is noted by members of the public.
Our celebration of Ms Scorgie’s 50 years of teaching at St Peter’s College is fast approaching. I would strongly encourage you to purchase your tickets from the school finance office next week before sales close off on 20th of March. It will no doubt be a fantastic evening.
During the storm in term three last year several of our trees around the property sustained significant damage. We have had an arborist look at these and provide some advice on the best way to manage these moving forward. Given the health and safety risk posed by large trees falling, we need to remove several of them. There is a large oak tree that was split in half and so needs to be removed. In addition to this, the poplar trees along the Kakapo Street boundary need to be removed. The root systems of these trees have been compromised and are no longer deemed to be safe. We realise that these trees were planted by first day pupils of the College, and so will be inviting them or their families to come at a later date and plant replacement native trees in this space. The safety of our students must take precedence in this situation.
I would also encourage you to support the PTFA golf ball drop fundraiser by purchasing the tickets that are currently on sale. The golf ball drop will be happening on Monday 30th at 1:30pm. The PTFA are fundraising towards replacing the Susan Horrell Courts that are in desperate need of an upgrade.
As we move through the season of Lent, hopefully we take this time to reflect on the things that are drawing us away from God and our purpose as human beings. Lent is a time to shed those habits and practices that prevent us from growing in faith, hope and love. My hope is that we all make the most of this season of renewal.
