The SPC Senior Hockey Team had an incredible week away in Dunedin playing amazing hockey! Over five days we faced tough opponents, explored new places, created new friendships, and showed resilience and determination on and off the field.
Our first game was against Garin College. It was a tight, back-and-forth game where both teams were evenly matched, and our strong defence and attacking opportunities saw us finish with a well-deserved draw 0-0. The second day we had a bye. So, we enjoyed a rest day, cheering on Mārūawai, visiting Signal Hill and Baldwin Street, and finishing the day off with some laser tag. We needed a 10-goal win to finish first in our pool on day three, we came out strong with goals from Ross, Courtney, Lee, and Baxter. Despite a 6-1 win, it wasn’t enough for first in our pool, but the team showed determination and skill in the pressure of scoring so many goals. We faced Glenfield for a shot at the 5th/6th playoff. It was a close, high-intensity game, but two goals from Glenfield in the second half sealed the result, losing 2-0. This sent us into the 7th/8th playoff. We were determined to finish off with a win on our final day. We came out with a strong start with Ross scoring from a tomahawk, then later followed by two goals from Ava, securing a 3-0 win. A fantastic team effort saw us finish 7th out of 15 teams!
A HUGE thank you to Miss Cowan for coaching us this year, Wendy for managing, Gillian for being our tournament mum and to Emma for being our umpire, we appreciate everything you ladies did for us!!
This year we say goodbye to 6 team members... Ava finishing her 4th year of SPC hockey, Bailey, Gemma and Theo (Phil the goalie) all finishing their second year and Josh and Baxter finishing their 1st year.
It was a pleasure being a part of this team and all the best for the years to come ❤️ 💙
