Kia ora e te whānau
The last two weeks have seen our Year 8 students travel to Deep Cove for their annual camp. Both classes enjoyed their time on camp and the various activities which they participated in. A special thanks to all the parents who volunteered to attend the camp. Without their support we could not offer these camps. Also, thanks to Mrs Kelly, Mr Terry and Mrs Brenssell who also attended as teachers. Personally, I enjoyed the experience of attending one of these camps.
A group of our students also attended the annual Bishop's Shield competition at St Kevin’s College in Oamaru. All the participants enjoyed the weekend and the various events that took place. A real highlight is the comradery and friendships built across schools. A special mention of Eilish Greene who won the Senior Prepared Speech with some great reflections on the Year of Hope and Spe Salvi, and our Junior Debating Team who won their debate. I would also like to thank all those teachers who coached the participants, organised the event and travelled with the team.
Another highlight was seeing our Kapa Haka rōpu perform on the stage at Polyfest in Invercargill. Their performance was very uplifting and highlighted the mahi that they have put in across the year building to this event. A special thanks to Whaea Vanessa and Mrs Baldock for their work with this rōpū in preparing them for the event.
I would like to remind any parents wishing to enroll their children at the College for 2026 that all enrolments completed before the 19th of September will go into the draw to win one of four $250.00 uniform credits. Early enrolment also helps the College to plan more effectively for 2026 and the provision of various subjects, etc. We are currently looking at around 50 enrolments into Year 7 for next year.
Our celebration of the Feast of the Assumption with mass down at Blessed Sacrament church was also another highlight for the year. Thank you to all those who participated in the various ministries and organisation of this Mass. We continue to be blessed by having Fr Sani as our College Chaplain.
Just a reminder to parents to return their School Board voting papers to the College before the closing date on the 10th of September. We are fortunate this year to have seven candidates standing for the five spots.
