St Peter’s College Ball
Security Required Every year the PTFA assists the ball committee with arranging for people to help provide low key security at the Ball. This year we require people for Saturday, 15th August, in the following time slots: 6.00pm - 7:30pm helping direct traffic in the carpark outside the Gore T&C - 2 people 7:20pm - 9:30pm and 9:15pm - 11.30pm to provide low level security during the event - 4 people for each time slot. Traditionally these roles are filled by the parents of Year 11 students, however this year a large number of these parents also have Year 13 children so will be attending the ball themselves. On Monday August 10, all Year 13’s are heading to Dunedin for the University and Polytechnic open days. This is a great chance for students to investigate future study options and to look at Halls of Residence. An email has been sent to parents with further details. Now is also an opportune time to think about your student loan/allowance application. Go to www.studylink.govt.nz To start the process all students planning on tertiary study should be applying for their loan/allowance by October. Got questions? Contact the Careers Department here at the school. Don’t forget to investigate www.moneyhub.co.nz This website has access to many scholarships and details on how to apply for them. Last Friday all of Year 7 spent the day at the Hokonui Runanga for their Retreat. The theme was “Building Community”. A variety of activities took place aimed at getting to know members of their year group that they did not know very well. Mass was celebrated by Fr Damian in the morning. We were grateful to have Keira, Molly, Ben and Rocco from Year 12 come and lead some of the activities. Everyone came away feeling glad that they had the chance to get to know someone else and looked forward to continuing these friendships. Last week some of our students spent time at St Mary’s school teaching some of the St Mary’s students (Tuakana - Teina) the Kapa Haka as part of the Matariki celebrations on Friday. Awesome work, you did a great job.
