Teaching and Learning Update
Kia ora koutou, Senior Students and NCEA We really are into what they call the “business end” of the year now. Excluding field trips and Tournament Week, senior students have 44 school days left this term and they need to make every minute count. I am monitoring credit numbers for every student and communicating regularly with the Senior Learning Tutors about this. In Week Three of this term we will start meeting with students who might need a bit of re-focusing in their bid to achieve Levels 1 – 3. I am pleased to say that, at this stage, my analysis of the data indicates that there is likely to be only a small number of these students at every year level. We will also begin transition conversations with those who feel they would like to secure a job, apprenticeship or place at a tertiary institution at the end of the year. We work hard at St Peter’s to provide each individual student with opportunities to end up wherever it is they would like to be when they leave our gates at the end of Year 12 or 13. We work with a range of providers and institutions to do this as we know every student is different. Please keep communicating with your students to keep updated on how they feel they might be doing and where they might be going. Reporting and Whanau Conferencing Term 3 We were fortunate to have our initial Whanau Evening which included the presentation from John Parsons in late February, but that was the last time we were able to meet with whanau at school. I am pleased to let you know that we will be having our regular Whanau Conferencing for Years 7 – 13 in the Hall on Thursday, 13 August, from 2pm – 7pm. For Years 9 – 13, this will be for all subjects, and for Years 7 and 8 this will be for specialist teachers such as Physical Education only. More information on how to book appointments for this will be available in the newsletter of Friday, 7 August which, is when bookings will open. Separate homeroom, Student-Led Conferences for Year 7 and 8 students will happen on other days and more information about that will also be available in next week’s newsletter. Please also do keep checking the fortnightly ATL’s. Here teachers communicate with you regarding Work Ethic and Behaviour and their comments may contain information about achievement. As always, if you have any queries about anything, you are very welcome to email me. Wishing you well and hoping that you are all keeping warm. Nga mihi, Bridget Ryan DP Teaching and Learning
