![]() Kia ora tatou This weekend we have a large and talented team heading to Verdon College to compete in the 76th Bishop’s Shield Public Speaking Competition. The programme is detailed below, and you are all most welcome to come along to support and attend any of the events during the weekend in Invercargill. In advance, I thank all the students and staff involved with this important fixture on our calendar and wish them all the very best for this highly competitive event. It is certainly a term of ‘all things culture’ as students continue to prepare for our whole school production ‘High School Musical’. Please mark on your calendars the 26th and 27th September to attend this show which is looking to be well worth seeing. In the meantime, Mr Munn and his talented film makers are pleased to once again open the St Peter’s College Film Festival up to the public next Wednesday night at 6:30pm in the SBS St James Theatre. We are looking forward to seeing another group of short films created by the senior media studies class. It will be well worth a night out and tickets can be bought at the school office or at the theatre on the night. Good luck to our sports teams competing in finals and semi-finals this weekend. I know that you will continue to equip yourselves with a fantastic attitude and big sense of commitment and camaraderie as you go into this high-stakes weekend. Yesterday, I attended Mr Tony Hanning’s farewell in Mosgiel. Tony has been the Director of the Dunedin Diocese Catholic Education Office for the past 38 years and he has been a huge support to St Peter’s College during that time. I felt privileged to speak on behalf of the secondary colleges in the diocese and thanked him for all the work he has done on our behalf. We wish him all the very best for the next stage of his life which hopefully will allow more time for family and relaxation. Thank you, Tony, for your many years of service. Next Thursday is the Feast of the Assumption which is an important day in the Church’s calendar. We will begin Thursday morning with a liturgy in the hall and parents are welcome to join us for this. Have a wonderful weekend, and I hope you can find some time to support our young people in their cultural and sporting ventures in the next few days. Warm wishes, Kate Nicholson
