Gateway in 2018 has proved to be another successful year with students putting theoretical classroom work into action at their various workplaces. This programme is designed to give students real hands on experience in the work environment and not only do they gain skills in specific industries but also learn those valuable employment skills of turning up on time, communicating and working as a team. 2018 saw a number of students heading toward careers in the automotive industry, notable as heavy diesel mechanics, but there was also a range of teachers, builders and retail /hospitality and agriculture. Gateway proves its worth as a programme as many student’s head into these careers with a good knowledge of what awaits them, and also for some, they find out what doesn’t suit them and they are able to make better choices when investigating other career paths. Gateway at St Peter’s College would not be the success it is without the great employers we have in Gore and surrounding districts. We thank them all for their time and patience with our students.
