On February 28, 10 students from Years 12 and 13 had an early start with Mrs McCabe, for a trip to Dunedin to attend the Caritas Leadership Day. We met with other students from Verdon, Kavanagh and St Kevin’s as well as with some of the Caritas members. The theme for the day was ‘Peace and Justice’. Throughout the day we participated in many activities surrounding this topic. We explored what ‘Peace and Justice’ meant looked at different countries throughout the globe and why some of them need help to retain peace, different reasons that conflicts can be started, as well as how we can best go about solving them in ways that positively affect everyone. We also had a Question and Answer session where we were able to talk with members of Caritas to learn more about what they do and how they decide on which countries need their help, as well as the ways they go about helping people. Through this day we learnt how lucky we are to be in New Zealand, which is such a safe country, where we have freedom and the opportunities to do as we choose Luke Roughan - Special Character Leader
