This week in the Gateway Department, students completed their Safety Matters course, prior to heading out to work. This is a good general course that allows students to gain understanding on how to conduct themselves safely in the workplace. Students on completing the course to a satisfactory level can gain credits towards their NCEA.
We also hosted Dan Gread, Liaison Officer from the University of Canterbury, this week. Seven students came to hear what programmes are available at the University of Canterbury. Other institutions will follow on with their presentations as the year progresses. Later in the year when students firm up their plans, course planning sessions will then take place with the student’s chosen institution. Its not too early to start considering holiday courses. SIT is running a Liquor Licensing course in the April School holidays. This is a two-day course on Monday, 20th April and Thursday, 23rd April. Students will gain credits and is an important qualification for those intending to get their Managers Certificate. See Mrs Delahunt to enrol.
