Nau mai, haere mai, welcome back to Term Three. I do hope that everyone enjoyed a well-deserved break and a rejuvenating time spent with those dearest to you.
As always at St Peter’s, there has been significant learning happening this week. I attended the annual St Peter’s College Film Festival at the St James Theatre last night. Yet again, we were entertained by a wonderful array of short films by the senior Media Studies class.  Project learning is being discussed in much current educational research; using this way of learning where there is student choice, meaningful contextual learning and outcomes, along with a public accountability factor, has certainly been fruitful in the case of the Media Studies class. Well done to all of you and thank you to Mr Nathan Munn and his helpers who organized the evening.
We have also hosted a visiting group of 13 students and two teachers from the Suzhou Science and Technology Town Foreign Language School near Shanghai, this week. They have been working alongside a group of our St Peter’s students on project-based learning and the outcome will be presented today at a forum being held with a number of dignitaries present. Our students have appreciated the opportunity to work closely with students from a different culture, and I compliment them on the caring and committed way they have undertaken this venture. The adults involved have truly appreciated their wonderful attitude towards this learning.
I would like to warmly welcome Mrs Teresa Blackbeard to our staff for the remainder of the year. Teresa will be teaching some of Ms Pavitt’s English classes and we are very pleased to have someone of Teresa’s experience and competency join the English Department. Our property manager, Mr Ray Shanks, is away overseas this term and we have enjoyed welcoming Mr Johnny Watson into the school. Johnny will be taking good care of the school property and facilities during this time.
Sports seasons are coming to a close, however we have a big number of representative players who have been selected across a number of sporting codes. Congratulations to all of you and we wish you well for the remainder of your sports season.
May God bless you and keep you in the palm of His hand and may His face shine upon you.
Have a wonderful weekend – and spread the word about our Open Night on Tuesday!

Regards,

Kate Nicholson
